AISB-917 Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) – Public Sector | Belgium

ABAKUS-IT-SOLUTIONS is looking for an experienced Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to lead cybersecurity strategy and resilience for a major public-sector organization.

In this key leadership role, you will ensure the protection of critical systems and data while driving governance, compliance, and risk management initiatives.

Your Mission

As CISO, you are responsible for the overall information security and IT resilience strategy, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data.

You act as a strategic bridge between executive leadership, IT, data protection, and public authorities, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks such as NIS2 and GDPR.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement the information security strategy and governance framework
  • Ensure compliance with NIS2 directive and GDPR requirements
  • Lead IT security audits and ensure follow-up on recommendations
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce security policies and procedures
  • Identify, assess, and report IT and cybersecurity risks to executive management
  • Strengthen cybersecurity awareness and culture across the organization
  • Manage and coordinate security incidents, including communication with stakeholders and authorities
  • Conduct or oversee regular security controls and assessments
  • Act as the main point of contact for cybersecurity with federal authorities
  • Collaborate closely with IT, DPO, and executive leadership

Your Profile

Mandatory

  • Master’s degree in IT, Information Security, Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in IT, including at least 5 years in information security
  • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure security:
    • Firewalls, antivirus, encryption, etc.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise IT architecture:
    • IAM, Microsoft Entra ID, networks, client-server models
  • Proven ability to balance cybersecurity risks with business priorities
  • Strong stakeholder communication at executive level
  • Fluent French and good knowledge of Dutch and English

Preferred

  • One or more certifications: CISSP, CISM, CISA, ISO 27001, ISO 27005
  • Strong knowledge of NIS2 and international security standards
